Building a list of subscribers is critical to your long-term success using the Internet to earn an income.  It’s safe to say the survival of your Internet business depends on it and if you market on the Internet you need to know these list building tips to maximize your earnings and grow your business:

1) Ad space - you can offer reputable business owners the opportunity to have their ad included on your emails to subscribers.  Instead of charging for this just ask them to do the same.  This gives you another chance to market your products and services to another list of people and to have some of them join your list.

Important note: make sure to work with people in your own niche.  Don’t make the foolish mistake of targeting prospects who are in different industries.

2) Affiliate marketing - join affiliate networks and promote products and services to your subscribers.  Don’t hit them over the head with constant sales pitches.  Give them great content educating them about things they may be looking for answers to.  You can then recommend a product you feel comfortable promoting.

Important note - your reputation is on the line so don’t promote every darn thing that comes along to your list.  If you gain their trust they will look over things your recommend and some will buy.  Just don’t be pushy.

3) Partnerships - taking affiliate marketing to another level partner up with other business owners and work out a deal to promote their stuff to your list for more than you would get an as affiliate.  Again, you can ask to the same with your products and services.

Important note - to approach others about partnering up with you for such deals is not easy.  You need to have a responsive list, a few testimonials and some references to give you some leverage.  Alex Jeffreys has a great free report called Post Launch Profits that gives some great tips on this which is known as JV Marketing.

4) Re-purposing - a great way to make multiple streams of income is converting your past informational content into different products you can give away or sell.  The awesome part about having a list of people who have agreed to receive emails from you is having the chance to promote these products to.

Important note - the best way to make it big in this business is to create your own product.  Yes, you can make a killing selling other people’s products but until you have your own product it will still be like working for someone else.  Also, you get to keep all the earnings yourself.  This should be the ultimate goal, so don’t go nuts about it now unless you can afford to invest a few bucks for product creation.

5) Leverage - having your own list of subscribers allows you to create different funnels of making money.  Also, give incentives to your list for inviting others to subscribe to the list as well.  Another ways to leverage your list is sending out surveys (give them a gift for filling out the survey) and learn what they need and want.  Once you get this crucial information create products and services based on their responses.

Important note - here is the cream of the crop to these list building tips, do not be fooled into thinking you can’t make money from a small list.  I know people who have been discouraged because they are competing with people who have thousands on their list while they only have hundreds.  You would be surprised how many marketers succeed with smaller lists.
